As I promised in my last blog, here’s the information on creating a Unique Selling Proposition or commonly known as USP.
In a nutshell, your USP is that single, compelling idea or benefit that makes people want to do business with you, instead of your competitors.
It is that distinct and irresistibly appealing idea that sets you and your business apart from every other “me too” competitor.
After creating a powerful USP for your business, you will outsmart, out-market, and out-position all your competitors. And this will create an unforgettable identity for you in the market and make it irresistible for prospects and clients not to do business with you.
Almost every successful business, whether small or large, has an effective and clearly stated USP. On the flip side, nearly every mediocre or struggling business doesn’t have one.
Having a clear focus, and then articulating that focus or purpose to their market, prospects, and clients, is how small businesses grow into giant corporations.
For example, both Domino’s Pizza and Federal Express became billion-dollar corporations in a very short period of time because of their powerful USPs.
Fed Express’ was, “When it Absolutely, Positively has to be there overnight”. What this conveyed to the potential customers is that if they want to be 100% certain their mail will get delivered the next day, then they must use Federal Express.
Domino’s USP was, “Hot, Fresh Pizza delivered within 30 minutes guaranteed or it’s free.”
Your USP, when formulated powerfully, can propel you to the top of your market very quickly as well, just like what Federal Express and Domino’s USPs did for them.
Begin improving your business by formulating a compelling USP, and then implementing it in your business immediately. Start thinking about compelling reasons why a person should become your client/customer.
